Q&A with Founder of Myroo: Rachael Dunseath

Vegan, plant-based, cruelty-free, free from all 14 food allergens and all synthetic irritants, Rachael Dunseath has created Myroo, a skincare brand made for everyone. We got all the details on how her journey in beauty came to be. 



What motivated you to start a skincare brand?

I've been in the skincare industry for almost 10 years now. It all started with my daughter's childhood eczema and a classic kitchen table business story - mixing up balms to help her. Freya still loves using Myroo products now and is super proud to be part of the story.


What is your brand’s purpose?

To provide beautiful to use products that bring joy and comfort to people with allergies and sensitive skin. Kindness is our core value - kind to our skin, kind to ourselves, kind to each other and kind to the planet. It drives every decision we make.


What do you think makes your brand unique?

Well, we are a plant-based and vegan brand formulated for sensitive and allergy-prone skin. That's fairly unique in its own right. 

But this isn't just a brand, it's my passion. I have multiple allergies, sensitive skin and I'm vegan. So, I completely understand my customers' experiences and want to help and improve their lives. I hope that this understanding and expertise is really what makes us stand out.

What do you love most about your job?

The variety. No two days are the same when you run your own brand. There's no chance for boredom.


What would you say are the key benefits that your brand’s products offer?

We want to be the go-to brand for sensitive and allergy-prone skin so we formulate all our products to minimise the risk of a reaction. That's always the starting point. We don't use nut, gluten or dairy ingredients, we offer fragrance free options for every product and we don't use synthetic ingredients that are known to irritate.

We're a positive beauty brand, so no anti-aging messages here. Getting old is a gift too many are deprived of! So, let's celebrate age and the knowledge, beauty and wisdom that comes with the passing of time. 

Myroo products are all gentle, but effective. They nourish, feed and replenish your skin and encourage balance. 


What’s your favourite ingredient and why?

That's too hard! I feel so blessed to work with such amazing natural ingredients every day. They all bring their own benefits to our range. If you're going to make me choose it would be Borage Oil. We use it in our bestselling Cleanser and Serum under its other, prettier, name of Starflower Oil. It's a power house of an oil, packed with Gamma Linolenic Acid, a broad range of phytochemicals and nutrients. It's great for calming redness, regenerating skin cells, decreasing water loss and combating dryness. It's also wonderful for improving barrier function, which is so often impaired in sensitive skin.  


Your skin is amazing. Are we allowed to know your secret daily skin routine?

*blushes* Thank you! I have a very simple routine, sensitive skin often doesn't appreciate overloading. I cleanse twice a day with our Gentle Cleanser & Cloth and follow it with our Skin Boost Serum. One or 2 drops in the morning and a bit more at night. For an extra treat I use our Superfood Balm as a mask or overnight treatment a couple of times a week. I'm also a fan of facial massage, so try to make time for that every few days.


Don't forget though, despite what some might tell you, skincare isn't a magic bullet. A lifestyle approach is important too. Good sleep, good food, lots of water and exercise all matter!


As Mother's Day is coming up, what would you recommend I treat my mum to from your range?  

My mum is Myroo's biggest fan! She uses the whole range but I think her favourite is the Geranium Hand Treat. She loves the smell, but she has some hand issues and the super rich formulation helps keep dry skin problems at bay.


What do you think is special about the partnership between your brand and Showcase?

It's great working with Showcase! The team have totally embraced Myroo and really buy into what we are trying to do. We've been partners for over a year now and we're grateful for them championing a smaller indie brand like us. We've also got to know lots of the team and their beauty experts really well and love working together with shared purpose.
