FIRST LOOK: winter red lips

There are some gorgeous lip darks in this season’s palettes, but the standout lip for me this season – the one I’m determined to perfect – is the cherry mouth, created by Dick Page for Marc for Marc Jacobs a/w 13 runway show. Instead of taking this season’s traditional route, with a dark lip set against minimal eyes, Page went for the glossiest, ripest shade of cherry he could lay his hands on. This was a really spunky red – Page lightheartedly called it his ‘OCD lip technique’ because of the way he layered different reds on to create the exact shade he was after. The best way to perfect this look is to use a gloss, which has the transparency that makes it more entry-level than full-on red lipstick, or to paint lipstick on over lip pencil with a brush. Try:..

Face Stockholm Crème Lipstick in Vibe (as cherry as it gets) and Rod (a bit more berry): apply them with a brush and blot with a tissue to enhancing their staying power.

New CID I-Pout Light-Up Lipstick with Mirror in Scarlet - classic pillarbox red: this is the one that looks fantastic with a black eyeliner.

T Leclerc Matt Lipstick in Goyave - rich red with a matt finish: made for those who are confident to wear red lippie and for fuller lips.

T Leclerc Lipgloss in Rouge Cerise - a super shiny red which gives more transparent coverage: a great way to dip a toe into wearing red.
