5 Minutes with... Kelly Colman

About Us page component.

Ever wondered what New CID actually means? We grabbed Kelly Colman for 5 minutes to talk about the inspiration behind her innovative makeup brand, essentials you need to survive in business and of course - the meaning behind the name... Kelly created New CID after listening to thousands of women passing through her makeup studios. The objective was clear! To create: simple, easy to use makeup, which provided a professional finish. It's no wonder that New CID's i-Glosses are best-sellers, available in 9 wearable shades complete with an inbuilt mirror and light, they are the most gorgeous multifunctional lip glosses we've ever seen!

1. Where did the name New CID come from? Does it have a hidden meaning?
New CID stands for New Cosmetics Identity – for me the meaning is about providing women with easy to use and simple to understand, clever colour products. Giving them the comfort and confidence to create their own ‘personalised’ cosmetics identity.

2. We love the unique light-up features across your range – what gave you this fabulous idea?
Our products are all about offering simple solutions to everyday makeup concerns. The thousands of women that were coming through our makeup studios 10 years ago, were wanting to apply their lip gloss, but having to hunt in their bags for a mirror and then search for a good light to apply. The solution: simply putting all 3 together – providing a quick, easy to use and time saving lip gloss (and then later lipsticks too!).

3. You’ve got an afternoon completely free…how do you spend it?
With my 3 children (if they're not at school) spending quality time with them and my husband is so important and precious to me. I’d like to squeeze in a bit of yoga and ballet too – both are excellent ways of unwinding for me.

4. If you could give just one piece of advice to a budding business brain, what would it be?
Make sure you have right people on board that want to be part of the journey with you. A good support network personally is so important too – those around you need to give you the strength to keep going, even when things aren’t going your way at times.

5. What is something we might not know about you?
I’m a professionally trained dancer, it was my first career after begging my mum when I was young to take me to dance classes!
